Goalpro 7 Reviewed
I’ve done a few reviews of Goalpro versions over the years and so I was interested to find out just what the new GoalPro 7 had to offer.I used to be a daily user of GoalPro up until version 6. It managed all my work and life goals and I was a great piece of software in those days, even if the user interface was a little unusual.
Since then I feel that the software has completely lost it’s way, and version 7.0 only reinforces this view. So many of the brilliant features of earlier versions seem to have been dropped from this version in an effort to "streamline" (aka "dumb down") goal setting. These include:
- Infinite number of sub-goals. I don’t know what the limit is; but youcan bet someone will hit it.
- A full scheduling calendar. I used to be able to drag tasks from the task list and drop them on the day and time I was going to work on them. That functionality has been dropped.
- Specifying the number of support items required. I found this essential as a check that I had all the required support in place. If I knew a goal needed 6 tasks; but I’d only assigned 5, then I knew I had t revisit that goal and work out what was missing. This really helped prevent things from falling through the cracks.
- The scratch pad. Again this was really useful for brainstorming a goal and then creating tasks and goals from the resulting list. Another loss.
- Outlook sync. I could keep my goals and tasks scheduled in Outlook by syncing the two products. This was invaluable in a business environment with group collaboration – when someone on the team wanted a piece of my time they could see at a glance what aspects of the projects I was working on and when. In version 7.0 I’d have to do all that scheduling manually.
Goalpro 7 seems to have reduced the product to the barest minimum amount of functionality required for a Goal setting program. The user interface has been tidied up a good bit; but at the sacrifice of most of the features that made this software very useful. A great dissapointment.

As the developer of GoalPro I would like to set the record straight regarding this author’s negative posting towards our goal-setting software titled GoalPro.
In this post he compares GoalPro 7.0 to previous editions of GoalPro. As clearly mentioned on our site, which he chooses to ignore, GoalPro 7.0 is not an upgrade to previous versions! GoalPro 2010 is the upgrade to previous editions and provides all the functionality he mentions is missing from version 7.0.
GoalPro 2010 is for the serious planner with complex goals, while GoalPro 7.0 is for the typical individual with serious personal goals.
GoalPro 7.0 it is an entirely new edition, designed for the user who would like to start setting goals immediately, without the learning curve of more complex titles. Version 7.0 is for those who would like to focus on their goal-setting efforts, not the goal-setting software.
Judging from the many testimonials we’ve received as to the effectiveness of this version — I know we’ve hit the mark.
In this post the author compares GoalPro 7.0 to all the features he loved with our previous edition — even though in 2004 he wrote an equally negative review about that edition.
What he also fails to mention is that FREE trial versions are provided for both editions, allowing you to FULLY evaluate our software before making a purchase decision. He also fails to mention that when you purchase one, you get BOTH!! This allows you to start with the GoalPro 7.0 and move to GoalPro 2010 should you decide you need the added functionality.
I have no idea (and really don’t care) what motivates this author to write negative articles about a software package that has made a positive impact on thousands of individuals. What I do know is that his blogs and research simply cannot be trusted.

Thanks for your comment and for explaining the difference between Goalpro 7 and Goalpro 2010.
I used to be a huge fan of Goalpro, as I’ve stated in my previous reviews, and I was a beta tester for Goalpro 6. I’ve no vindictive purpose in writing a negative review, if I feel the software isn’t up to scratch then that’s what I write.
With regards to Goalpro 7 I received an email newsletter to say that there was an new version of Goalpro available – Goalpro 7. I went to to the Success Studios website and clicked on Products on the menu and it only lists Goalpro 7. Neither the newsletter nor the website mention Goalpro 2010 as being a distinct product so I think I can be forgiven for thinking that the latest edition of Goalpro is the latest evolution of the product line. Perhaps if they were called Goalpro Lite and Goalpro Professional it would be a little clearer? Or if they were both listed under Products on the menu?
Anyway I’ve found a link to Goalpro 2010 and I’ve downloaded a 15 day trial. I intend to give it a good run out to see how it performs and then I’ll write up a review.

I find it very hard to imagine you can write a review about GoalPro (any edition) and have absolutely no positive comments, whatsoever.

I first used Goalpro 6.0 a number of years ago and was very impressed. Unfortunately, I am a serious procrastinator and stopped using the product to my detriment. Now I have returned and I am looking forward to using this in a serious way. However, I must say that I am now a bit concerned about your personal attack on one of your users. I hope you won’t attack me for this, but I have no history with you and I have no axe to grind (I was just searching for Goalpro Android apps when I came upon this). From my outside and customer centric point of view – you sound defensive and vindictive. I know that David’s comments were somewhat harsh, but that is life. Why not take the opportunity to hear his complaint and take it as useful criticism. Especially since his second comment was very conciliatory – a bit of an olive branch I thought. Besides, I agree with him; your project positioning of GoalPro 7.0 and Goalpro 201 IS confusing. I could not tell what I was buying so I bought both and I am not too happy about that.
As a small business person myself, I have learned that you get little from positive comments. It is from your users that take the time to provide negative comments that you LEARN. As I said, I just stumbled across this, but if you believe that you have “set the record strait” you are wrong. To me you just look unprofessional. Sorry, I like your product and I bought it (version 7 and 2010). I want you to be successful so that you will be around in a few years to support and improve it. If you are this defensive it causes me to wonder about the state of your business.

GoalPro 2010 is for those customers who have become accustomed to the process found in previous editions of GoalPro, such as version 5.0, 6.0 and 2008. GoalPro 2010 is updated to run on XP, Vista and Windows 7.0.
GoalPro 7.0 is for those individuals looking for a more streamlined goal-setting process, without the learning curve. GoalPro 7.0 allows the user to quickly focus on their goal-setting efforts and not the goal-setting software.
The best part is that you do not need to decide which version to purchase because when you buy GoalPro you get BOTH GoalPro 2010 and GoalPro 7.0 — both editions for the price of one.

I’ve never heard of Goalpro until yesterday. I’ve been looking into goals for a while and have products from Brian Tracy etc. I’ve found some of this material hard to put together into a systematic approach to be honest; to me it seems like there’s a fair bit of information compiling. I was glad to hear that there’s a goal setting software out there that’s been around for a while and that will make things a little easier, so thanks. I’ll be downloading the free trial today!
However, I will say that I agree with Ron and David in regards to the naming convention. I’m a software developer so I’m used to working with software. I think that naming the less complex edition, GoalPro 7, and the more complex, GoalPro 2010, is very ambiguous indeed. I understand that the webiste explanation will probably vindicate the names. However, the fact is, at first glance, Goalpro 2010 looks like a new product and GoalPro 7 looks like a previous product and I can imagine people that are not so PC literate becoming confused and buying the wrong product… I know my dad would

GoalPro 2010 (version 6.5) is an update to the GoalPro 2008 code base. The code base in 2008/2010 has been an ongoing project since 2002, but written with (what is now) older development technology. Since you are a programmer you know exactly what I am talking about.
Version 7.0 is the start of the next phase of GoalPro, using the latest .NET development language, with the implementation of a more user-friendly interface. While GoalPro 7.0 is much more user-friendly when compared to previous editions, it isn’t yet quite as feature-rich as the more mature GoalPro 2010.
GoalPro 7.0 is just the start and its code base will continue to be enhanced in coming updates, and will quickly catch up and surpass features found in 2008/2010.
GoalPro 2010 was released for those customers who depend on GoalPro 2008 daily, but who now use the latest version of Windows (Vista and 7.0) and needed better compatibility.
GoalPro 7.0 is already much more popular than 2010 for both new and existing users. New users prefer its easy-to-understand interface, and the learning curve in GoalPro 7.0 is far less than any previous edition. GoalPro 7.0 is extremely solid and underwent over 6 months of beta-testing before its eventual release. This provides us with a solid foundation to build on.
